What cruising means to you?
Travelling takes us out of our coziness and inspires us to touch, taste and try a new worlds. It constantly challenges us, not only to adapt to and explore new surroundings, but also to engage with different individuals, to embrace new things as they come and to share new and relevant experiences with best friends and daughter.
This time I’m going to tell you all the good things about cruising:
1. You visit many places without any effort on your part
2. You don’t pay for expensive accommodation every night
3. You can get any amount of food you want
4. You can visit the theater almost every night to see top shows
The idea that you visit many places is true. The fact that you rarely get more than eight hours to do this will either whet your appetite for another visit, or make you glad you’re moving to another place in a day or so. Sometimes a quick reconnaissance is just enough.
Don’t expect to do everything in the limited time available. You don’t even have to leave the ship, (it can be nice and quiet if you don’t) although I always think that’s such a shame. You may never visit the place again, so why not try it?
Just one caveat, sometimes the nearest town is a bus ride away from the port. This can sometimes be a long trip there and back, eating in the eight hours you have, so you may feel rushed!
The cabins on board may be simple and a bit small, but because I spend so little time in them, I always go for the cheaper ‘inner cabins’. Also, rooms with balconies rarely interest me, as I can always find a good vantage point on one of the upper decks. Your accommodation is basic, yet comfortable and relatively cheap per night compared to a hotel!
Many people go on cruises just for the food and the fact that most meals can be waited on. There may be a dress code for the main meals on certain days, which includes formal attire such as suits and dresses. There will always be alternative burger bars you can go to where there won’t be! Meals rarely include drinks, especially alcoholic ones.
The theater is not often mentioned on a cruise, but I know you can get fantastic performances that rival London West End Shows. Your theater entertainment can become part of your regular activities and is a great way to unwind after a long day. Alcoholic drinks are sold throughout the day on board, including in the theater.
So there it is, just a few things to think about.
