It’s only natural to pump your car’s air conditioning on at full blast on a hot day. You’re probably feeling uncomfortable and need to get some relief from the heat.
But before you turn on the AC you need to do one thing. It won’t only make your car last longer, it can save your health…
Before you blast your car’s air conditioning, you should always open up the windows. Why? Because of toxic benzene floating around your vehicle.
Although it’s a natural compound, benzene has been linked to cancer since it accumulates in our liver, bones, and kidneys and our body has trouble eliminating it.
When the windows are closed in a car, studies show that benzene builds up every time temperatures reach 60°F or higher. Scientists think it comes from the hard plastic of the seats and just builds up in the car. To get rid of it, you should open up your windows.
When you first turn on your AC, it blows out warm air and that air contains the cancer-causing compound of benzene.
Simply roll down your windows before turning on the AC so fresh air can replace the hot air loaded with benzene.
You can learn more about the dangers of benzene by reading about it on the American Cancer society’s website.
But since rolling down your windows is such an easy way to prevent breathing in the poisonous air, we recommend you get in the habit of doing it every time.
